Cai Guoqiang's "We Are": A Stunning Fireworks Performance Merging Art and Technology

This performance is one of Cai Guoqiang's signature art forms, using fireworks pigments and dyes that are organic and sustainable materials, significantly different from traditional fireworks technology. The event, titled "We Are," not only involved Cai Guoqiang in its conception and choreography but also incorporated his specially developed artificial intelligence model "c AI ™" along with over a thousand drones, creating a stunning visual feast. Notably, this is the first time in American history that daytime fireworks have been combined with a drone formation.

Katherine E. Fleming, the chair and CEO of the Getty Trust, stated that this was an unprecedented performance and announced that the fireworks show marked the official opening of the PST art festival.

Cai Guoqiang mentioned that AI technology is rapidly evolving, and while preparing his English speech for the performance, AI became a valuable assistant, enabling him to express himself fluently in English with a Minnan accent. He hopes that through the display of "We Are," AI will no longer be hidden in computers but will interact with the audience on-site. He believes that AI can reveal the inner mysteries of the world.


The performance was divided into five chapters, beginning with a kickoff by rugby player David Lynch, while Cai Guoqiang controlled the rhythm and commands of the fireworks. The entire stadium was surrounded by daytime fireworks, with colorful displays transforming the sky into a canvas, creating a dreamlike visual effect. Particularly during the two explosions, the sky was directly colored, as if entering a wondrous alternate dimension.

This performance attracted numerous celebrities, including Wu Jianmin, chairman of Huamei Bank, Wendy Deng, producer of Cai Guoqiang's documentary, real estate developer Pan Shiyi, actress Zhang Jingchu, and forensic expert Dr. Li Changyu, among others.
